Southern Transitional Council Holds a Seminar about “The Southern People’s Right in Restoring Their Independent State” in Geneva

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Geneva – Exclusive[/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″][su_dropcap]T[/su_dropcap]he Southern Transitional Council held a seminar about “The Southern People’s Right in Restoring Their Independent State” in the Swiss Journalism Club in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 41st round of UNHRC.
Dr. Aidarous Al-Naqueeb, chairman of the council’s department of foreign affairs, talked about the national and international legitimacy of restoring the independent state of the south, clarifying the legal aspects of the issue in addition to sacrifices of the southern people.
Al-Naqueeb also explained the violations against the southern people saying: “war itself is the ultimate violation of human rights and the main incubator of reproducing violations. The south was invaded twice: in 1994, the southern state was destroyed and the southern citizen was denied all his basic rights including services provided by the government. The war of 2015 was an extension for 1994 war, more violent, more aggressive and more destructive. During the two wars, we saw rows of refugees coming out of their bombarded homes to be bombarded during their marches to their alternative shelters. We saw thousands of women, children and elderly being killed by Al-Hothi/Affash militias just for fun”.
He indicated that the consequences of these two wars remained as the legitimacy authorities didn’t work according to principles of equity and responsibility. They refrained from assuming all responsibilities that even the weakest authority may assume including judicial, executive, security, developmental and food providing services.
He also asserted that if the situation in the south remains as it was in 7-7-1994 and 16-7-2015, when water, electricity, health care, education and security services collapsed in addition to massive increases in prices, inflation, lack of investment and destruction of infrastructure necessary for decreasing poverty and unemployment, this will be considered as an official policy taken by extremist wings in the legitimate authority for driving the southern people towards starvation and poverty to force them to accept the outcomes of 7-7-199 invasion, especially with those who created this invasion are still in office.
At the end of his speech, Al-Naqueeb said: “Solving the southern cause requires respect of the southern will through granting the southern their natural and legal right of self-determination and choosing their future. The agreement of May 22nd died for good and the best solution is the two-state solution to establish continuous and sustainable relations between the two people in the north and the south”.
Abd Al-Rahman Al-Musaibali, representative of the southern transitional council in Geneva, explored the failures of the governmental report to UN HRC indicating that what the report said about southern rights is misleading as it tried to establish the southern cause as a lawmaking cause while it is actually a political cause due to the fact that the southern people have the right of self-determination.
Dr. Efendy Al-Haj Al-Merkashi, member of the southern national assembly, discussed the reasons behind fails in peace process asserting that the council’s participation in peace process is the only solution to make it success.
Intesar Al-Hadali, a lawmaker activist, explained the violations and crimes of Al-Houthis against civilians in Al-Dhala’a.
Faisal Folaz, chairman of the Gulf-European Center for Human Rights, discussed the role of Iran in the region and its support to Al-Houthis.
The seminar ended with presenting a documentary about the establishment of the southern transitional council and distributing the human rights report prepared by human rights department of the council.
International and Swiss media representatives, including a representative of the Swiss Radio and Television, in addition to representatives of international organizations concerned with Yemeni issue, attended the seminar that was broadcasted on air.
