9 Killed in Latest Houthi Crime in Hodeidah amid UN Condemnation

The Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen committed yet another massacre in Yemen’s coastal province of Hodeidah, five days after their last atrocity.

Field and medical sources revealed that the militias shelled an industrial complex in Hodeidah, leaving nine workers dead and seven injured and heavily damaging the facility.

The attack was the latest violation of the fragile United Nations truce in the province and drew condemnation from the legitimate government and UN mission in Hodeidah.

On Sunday, the Houthis had shelled the village of al-Qaza in Hodeidah, killing four women and four children.

Caretaker Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani condemned in the strongest terms the latest “ugly terrorist crime committed by the Houthis”.

He urged the UN, its Security Council and special envoy to Yemen to take a “clear and decisive stand on this heinous crime.”

The United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) also condemned the incident.

“The killing of civilians must stop,” it said Thursday, urging all parties to maintain the ceasefire.

“In addition to being a working factory servicing the population and providing employment, the site of the industrial complex is being considered as one of the possible locations of an UNMHA office,” it said.

Even though the mission did not hold the Houthis responsible for what it described as an “incident”, it said the development showed the pressing need to push forward the operation to demilitarize frontlines.
