Newspapers review: President Abbas’ summit with Egypt’s al-Sisi focus of dailies

The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ bilateral summit with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo dominated the front page headlines in Tuesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds reported that Abbas-al-Sisi summit stressed the importance of Egypt’s efforts to achieve intra-Palestinian reconciliation and the Palestinian people’s right to establish its state on 1967 borders.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported President Abbas commending Egypt for its positions and role in support of the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom and independence.
It also reported Egyptian President al-Sisi affirming his country’s full support for the Palestinian positions and choices towards the political settlement.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam stressing that the Palestinian question remains a ]key[ priority for Egyptian politics and reiterating his country’s firm position in support of the Palestinian question.
Palestinian ambassador to Egypt and Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League Hossam Zaki was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida saying that there is coordination among Palestine, Egypt and Jordan to support President Abbas’ vision on the international peace conference.
The ongoing home and structures demolitions as part of the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people also hit the front page headlines.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said in this regard that the Israeli occupation authorities carried out demolitions and served demolition notices against a number of structures and houses in various districts.
They added that the occupation authorities destroyed water wells and razed farmlands across the West Bank districts.
According to al-Quds, the Israeli occupation authorities demolished and served demolition orders against 11 Palestinian-owned houses and structures.
Furthermore, the dailies reported that Israeli forces and settlers cracked down on an anti-settlement protest in Salfit district.
The dailies said that the European Union (EU) provided €9.27 million in support of Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem.
The latest statistics on the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the occupied Palestinian territories also were featured in the dailies.
They said that 2,062 Palestinians contracted the highly contagious virus and 15 others died of it in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds added that 1,153 Covid-19 patients recovered in the occupied territories.
Among the latest confirmed cases and fatalities, al-Quds added that 126 cases and one fatality were recorded in Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh was reported in the dailies announcing that the government has purchased 50,000 dose of flu vaccine and seeks to secure 2 million Covi-19 doses.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida spotlighted the demolition of a historic stairway which leads to the Yusufia Cemetery in Jerusalem’s Old City by the Israeli occupation authorities.
Al-Quds reported Jerusalem Mufti Muhammad Hussein condemning the demolition of the stairway as an Israeli aggression that encroaches upon the sanctity and inviolability of the cemetery.
