Chairman of the Southern National Assembly Receives the ICRC Delegation to Middle East and North Africa
[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Aden – Exclusive[/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] General Ahmed Said Ben Brik, chairman of the Southern National Assembly, received the ICRC delegation to Middle East and North Africa on Monday December 9th, 2018.
Ben Brik welcomed director of ICRC operations in the Middle east and his accompanying delegation and greeted them on behalf of president Aidarous Al-Zubaidi. He asserted the significance of this meeting to support relations for the interest of the southern people. He added that the southern transitional council suffers from many problems in Aden since 2015 war that left behind massive killings and injures. The council played a major role in securing ICRC teams field movements to deliver humanitarian aids and the council is still committed to providing IRC teams with this help through sending a military unit to protect them and their properties.
Ben Brik discussed the current situation indicating that recent talks will fail if the southern cause is not on the table while talks embrace self-serving parties that work on prolonging war at the expense of the southern people who suffers from corruption of the legitimacy till this moment.
Director of ICRC operations in the Middle East and North Africa, Fabrizio Carboni, expressed his happiness to be in Aden with the southern transitional council and appreciated the major role of the council that represents a promising positive shift as the situation in Aden is not as being transferred abroad. He discussed several issues concerning the humanitarian and health care files and how-to device prospective plans to help citizens.
Niran Sawquy, member of the council’s presidency, asserted the importance of expanding the work of ICRC all over the south and to support the continuation of this work in the future hoping that peace could be reached eventually and asserting peacefulness of the council and its pursuit for peace.
Dr. Salem Al-Shubhi, vice chairman of the southern national assembly and head of health care commission, Dr. Abdullah Ba Sohaib, head of Human Rights Commission of the assembly, Carmen Ashtarita, new chief of ICRC in Aden, and Obaid Ben Mabrouk, a translator of protection department of ICRC, attended the meeting.
