Department of Human Rights Holds a Seminar in Celebration of the World Day of Nonviolence

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Aden – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Department of human rights of the southern transitional council held a seminar on Sunday October 28th, 2018 in Aden under the title of “Nonviolent Work” on the occasion of the World Day of Nonviolence with participation of several lawmakers NOG activists, media men and southern figures. Zikra Maatook Hussain chairwoman of Human Rights Department indicated that the seminar on the occasion of World Day of Nonviolence should be used to raise public awareness about the importance of peaceful struggle. She added that the concept of nonviolence, in all forms and types, is significant to avoid blood shed and concentrate on construction. She indicated that the council is aware of the importance of cultivating nonviolence culture as the council celebrated the third anniversary of Aden Historic Declaration on October 3rd, a declaration that called for restoring public facilities by the people without violence according to the words of president Al-Zubaidi. She also called for nonviolence in defending and advocating human rights as an established principle of the upcoming southern state.
Zaher Al-Gunaid, facilitator of the seminar, indicated the urgent need of nonviolence in societies suffering from conflicts, especially with massive numbers of killings, injured and refugees all over the world because of violence. He added that the southern resistance is peaceful and used civilized methods to advocate its rights including demonstrations, marches and civil disobedience on the basis of Islamic values and international conventions. Al-Gunaid explained the terms of non-violent resistance that include rightful cause to be advocated and full awareness of risks that necessitate self-control, good organization and avoiding recklessness in non-violent work.
The seminar discussed several opinions and remarks about authority monopoly, violence against peoples and oppressing freedoms and free expression as major causes of violence and conflicts.
