Doctors Without Borders Announces the Intent to Close Most of its Centers in Yemen

[su_label type=”info”]SAMA News – Adan[/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″][su_label type=”info”]Amman – SMA – PIC[/su_label][/su_spacer] Doctors without Borders” Organization announced its intent to close most of its centers in Yemen as Cholera registration numbers decreased by nearly 95%. The organization indicated in its statement that numbers of cholera weekly registrations dropped from 11139 cases during the third week of June (climax of breakout) to 567 cases during the second week of October 2017. With this significant decrease, the organization will close most of its centers dedicated to treat cholera in Yemen. According to the statement, only 9% of registered cases needed hospitalization and very limited number of cases had the diagnostic criteria of cholera. In addition, the statement indicated that cholera breakout didn’t end yet but now it is not a top priority for the organization in Yemen. But this should not cover the horrific health situation for millions of poor citizens who cannot afford the costs of basic health care in Yemen. Since cholera breakout, the organization treated more than 103 thousand patients in 37 centers and paid monetary compensations for 685 health workers in addition to the costs of treatment.
