After four years of their graduation, the university is still refusing to recruit them as tutors like their peers on other universities in Yemen. During the sit-in, some graduates burned their certificates to protest against this unfair situation.
Graduates held banners saying” we need no more than what our peers got in other universities”. They asked president and prim-minister to push on the ministries of civil services and finance to complete their recruitment. Graduates expressed resentment for being underestimated after their hard work during their study.
Dr. Adel Muhsen, chairman of the coordinative committee of premier graduates indicated that they are asking for their rights according to the presidential decree that most universities like Sanaa, Eb, Taez and Zemar implemented while Adan is still stalling. He added “we met the university president several times who told us that the university asked the ministries of finance and civil services to complete all required procedures for appointing graduates as tutors but none of these bodies did anything till now”. In addition, university president indicated that professor Fadl Lakua is following the situation with prim-minister but when we talked to professor Lakua he said that he was not invited to prim-minister’s office to discuss the matter. Accordingly, graduates performed their sit-in as a protest to gain their rights.
