The Transitional Council mobilizes 60 international organizations to confront #Corona in the south

he Southern Transitional Council called on 60 international organizations to unite efforts to confront the damage caused by the torrential rains that struck the capital Aden and the southern governorates, and the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus.

In a video conference, on Wednesday, the Transitional Council leaders warned with representatives of international and non-governmental relief organizations, the need for a rapid response to face the severe humanitarian, economic and social repercussions in the face of the Corona pandemic.

The Member of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Amr Ali Al-Beedh, discussed in the video conference, with participation of the STC spokesperson, Eng. Nizar Haitham, and Amira Augustin, member of the General Department for Foreign Affairs of the Southern Transitional Council Office in Europe, the political motives for the Transitional Council’s announcement of the self-administration decision in the south.

Al-Beedh presented in the meeting the request of the Southern Transitional Council to 60 international organizations to unite efforts to face the damage caused by the torrential rains that struck Aden and the southern governorates, and the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus.

Al-Beedh pointed out to the need for a rapid response to face the severe humanitarian, economic and social consequences in the face of the Corona pandemic.

For his part, Eng. Nizar Haitham reviewed the updates for the humanitarian situation in the south in general, and the capital Aden in particular, stressing that the Transitional Council made a comprehensive survey of the number of floods victims, the size of the damage, the affected areas, and the number of destroyed homes.

Haitham pointed out that the Transitional Council possesses an integrated plan through its relief committees to alleviate the suffering of citizens from the recent torrential floods, calling on the international community and international organizations to take the initiative to provide assistance to face natural disasters.

For her part, Amira Augustin, stressed on the need to find a political solution to the crisis with the participation of the Transitional Council as a representative of the southern issue, warning of the attempts of some parties to marginalize the southern women.

The meeting touched on efforts to provide the necessary medical and personal protection equipment for workers in health sector, in addition to sterilizers and medical disinfectants, to improve the mechanisms to counter the virus.

The meeting discussed mechanisms to support the social protection sector by providing cash and in-kind assistance, to contribute to reduce the spread of poverty among African citizens and refugees and those displaced from the north, especially those working in the informal sector.

For their part, representatives of international organizations reviewed their plans to empower the most needy segments of the population, and programs to facilitate access to urgent humanitarian assistance.
