UN Supreme Commission of Human Rights Organizes a Seminar About Methods of Protecting Human Rights in Al-Mehra

[su_label type=”info”]SMA News – Al-Mehra – Exclusive [/su_label][su_spacer size=”10″] Office of UN Supreme Commission of Human Rights in Yemen organized a seminar on methods and mechanisms of protecting human rights in Al-Mehra from 16-17-9-2018.
Mukhtar Mohamed Ben Ouaid, first deputy of Al-Mehra governorate, and Ali Afrar, directors of human rights office in Al-Mehra, attended the seminar.
Ben Ouaid asserted the importance of applying such event to introduce civil community to human rights and how to protect them. he also indicated that local authorities of the governorate always support such efforts. Additionally, he appreciated the role of Supreme Commission of Human Rights in observing and documenting violations of human rights and their efforts in increasing social awareness about them, indicating that the security conditions of Al-Mehra are better than other governorates. He added that Al-Mehar was not negatively affected by the current war as judicial authorities and other governmental facilities are still functional normally.
Ali Afrar, directors of human rights office in Al-Mehra, expressed his happiness with this step that will activate human rights in the governorate. He demanded the UN Supreme commission to cooperate continually with the office in this concern to facilitate such events. He also thanked the supreme commission for adopting such events.
Salah Ben Slim, representative of UN Supreme Commission of Human Rights, provided a brief note about the commission since foundation and mechanisms of observing and documenting human rights violations. Lamis Al-Hamedi, UN personnel, confirmed the important role of the supreme commission in observing and documenting human rights violations as this aims to protect the rights of Yemeni citizens. Gameel Mater, attorney and international trainer, explained concepts and principles of human rights protection, Yemeni constitution and human international law. He talked about the importance of human rights standards for the society giving examples about political, social and ecological rights. Salem Al-Sakkaf, chairman of Al-Sabeel foundation for social development and representative of King Salman’s Center for Human Aids, talked about humanitarian aids and the role of NGOs in them, with examples of tasks fulfilled in this field in several governorates.
Participants were distributed into groups to discuss violations exercised in the society and how to protect against them in addition to suggestions for avoiding and decreasing violations.
